The Throat Chakra in a Post Pandemic World

Recently, I have seen several clients come to the clinic needing a Throat Chakra balance. Located in the neck region, the Throat Chakra is associated with communication, self-expression, and creativity. When the Throat Chakra is balanced, individuals experience ease in expressing their thoughts, emotions, and ideas, and communicate with others effectively. On the other hand, when the Throat Chakra is blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to a range of physical, emotional, and spiritual problems.

What is the Throat Chakra?

The Throat Chakra is the fifth chakra in the human body and is associated with the element of ether or space. It is located in the neck region, and its color is blue. The Throat chakra governs our ability to communicate and express ourselves, including our thoughts, feelings, and ideas.

When the Throat Chakra is in balance, individuals can express themselves clearly and confidently, without fear of judgment or rejection. They are able to listen to others without judgment and communicate with empathy and understanding. This creates a healthy and harmonious environment for communication and relationships.

Characteristics of the throat chakra

The throat chakra is associated with several characteristics, including:

1. Communication: The Throat Chakra is responsible for communication, including verbal, written, and nonverbal communication.

2. Self-expression: This chakra enables individuals to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas freely and creatively.

3. Creativity: The Throat Chakra is associated with creativity, including creative expression, imagination, and artistic ability.

4. Authenticity: When the Throat Chakra is balanced, individuals can express their true selves and live authentically.

5. Clarity: The Throat Chakra enables individuals to communicate clearly and effectively, without ambiguity or confusion.

6. Listening: This chakra is also associated with active listening, including listening to others without judgment or distraction.

Issues related to the Throat Chakra

When the Throat Chakra is blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to several physical, emotional, and spiritual issues. Some of the common issues associated with the Throat Chakra include:

1. Communication problems: This includes difficulty expressing oneself, speaking up, or being heard.

2. Social anxiety: Individuals with an imbalanced Throat Chakra may feel anxious or uncomfortable in social situations.

3. Creative blocks: This includes feeling uninspired, lacking motivation, or struggling with creative expression.

4. Physical ailments: Imbalance in the Throat Chakra can manifest as physical ailments, including throat infections, thyroid issues, and voice problems.

5. Lack of authenticity: An imbalanced Throat Chakra can lead to individuals suppressing their true selves, thoughts, and emotions.

6. Relationship problems: Communication issues, lack of empathy, and misunderstanding can lead to problems in relationships.

I think it’s no surprise that there seems to be a collective Throat Chakra imbalance at the moment. We live in a time where people are afraid to speak up, even if just to ask a question or voice a concern, for fear of ‘cancel culture’. “Fake news” and the rise of AI has blurred the boundaries between truth and lies, making it harder for us to discern what’s authentic and what isn’t. The required wearing of masks (whether you agreed with it or not!) has quite literally had us blocking our centre of self expression. All of this has created an atmosphere of suppression – no wonder the Throat Chakra can’t thrive.

Even though we can’t control our external environment, there are things we can do within our control to balance the Throat Chakra. As well as being a kinesiologist, I’m also a singer and choir trainer so I always suggest to my clients to sing. Even if it’s just in the shower, or the car, or even into a pillow where no one can hear you – no matter how great or how bad you think you sound, channel your inner Beyonce and let loose!

Other effective ways to balance and heal the throat chakra include:

1. Meditation: Regular meditation can help calm the mind and balance the throat chakra. Focus on the breath, and visualize a blue light filling the throat area.

2. Sound therapy: Listening to music, chanting, or singing can help activate and balance the Throat Chakra.

3. Yoga: Specific yoga poses, including fish pose, shoulder stand, and plow pose, can help balance the Throat Chakra.

4. Journaling: Writing down thoughts, feelings, and ideas can help release blocked energy and balance the Throat Chakra.

5. Self-expression: Engage in creative activities, including writing, painting, or singing, to express oneself and balance the Throat Chakra.

6. Speak truth: Be honest and speak truth.
